The Laurels Cycle Crew reach their €1million for charity
The journey of success has involved many uphill battles against the Irish terrain, sore joints and tired legs, but for no better cause than Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin. The Laurels Cycle Crew is Our Lady’s Hospital’s single biggest non- corporate donor and was established in 2009 by our very own Laurels manager Damien Long and head barman Denis McCarthy. Following the success story of a local child who had life changing spinal surgery kindly given by the Straight Ahead team, the two lads were inspired to keep the good energy flowing throughout the community.
With the support of family, friends and the residents of Clondalkin and surrounding areas, The Laurels Cycle Crew has come a long way, cycling the length and breadth of Ireland for this great cause. It all kicked off with an annual cycle from Galway to Dublin, with 27 people taking on the challenge. Throughout the years the numbers have grown dramatically and so has the idea of ‘this once off event’ that all started with the conversation of a ‘walk’!
With over 400 people now taking part in the cycle from Galway to Dublin, its success has brought new ideas. In the last two years another cycle has taken place. The ‘Christmas Santa Cycle’ from Phoenix Park to Clondalkin Village and has played its part in helping this community reach their €1 million target.
Being part of The Laurels Cycle Crew has helped take more than 100 children with severe spinal conditions off a waiting list and put them onto the road to recovery. We say a huge thanks to Damien and Denise and all involved so far. We are beyond proud and so should you be of this great achievement, keep those legs pedaling and keep the good work going. Your 2 million target awaits!
If you are inspired and are feeling motivated, the Galway 2020 cycle is underway June 29th. Get on your saddle and sign your name up in the Laurels Pub, Clondalkin.
As a big thank you for all your achievements so far join us in The Laurels, Friday 27th September from 8pm
